Pico de Gallo translates to “rooster’s beak.” While the term has many origins, many believe it came from the traditional method of eating the salsa by pinching it between the thumb and forefinger. It also goes by “Salsa Fresca” or “Salsa Mexicana”. Since the finely chopped red tomatoes, white onion, and green cilantro resemble the Mexican flag.
